- Innebærer utdannings- og forståelseselementer.
- Er som regel organisert for mindre grupper av små, lokale spesialiteter. Turoperatører av forskjellige størrelse organiserer og markedsfører også økoturismeturer, som regel for små grupper.
- Den minimaliserer belastningen på naturmiljøet samt det sosio-kulturelle miljøet.
- Den støtter bevaring av naturområder ved å:
- Generere økonomiske fordeler for vertssamfunnet, organisasjoner og myndigheter som er ansvarlig for bevaring av naturområdene.
- Utvikler jobb og inntektsmuligheter for lokale samfunn.
- Øker bevisstheten både blant lokalbefolkningen og turister om behovet for bevaring av naturen og kulturelle fortrinn.

An ecotourism company, by the today's standard, can not offer naturebased activities alone. We have to show in whole and with dedication that we are running an ecotourism operation.
An ecotourism company is, according to the Quebec-declaration a company that will follow the strictest environmental principles and always ensure to run as sustainable as possible, constantly balancing ecological, cultural, social and economical considerations. Offering naturbased activities contributing positively in local community, use local workforce, local products and services and show a general responsibility towards the community. Working with smaller groups or individual guests to achieve a experiences and learning venue for nature, environment and local culture.
